Storing Honey

Why does my honey keep going cloudy. I buy it in a squeezy jar and it gets so thick and cloudy you can no longer squeeze it out!

Should I store it in the fridge?

I usually go through one jar a month so its not as if its an old jar found at the back of the cupboard!

Don't store in the fridge as it's the cold that makes it cloudy. Put jar in a pan of warm water to get it clear again (or microwave carefully).

Forgot to add - it's the sugars crystallising out that cause the cloudiness. Nothing 'wrong' with it.

Or buy acacia honey. That always stays clear.
As Alogopus says, honey doesn't need to be kept in the fridge, it never goes off

When they opened Tutenkamen's tomb there was, apparently, honey in there that could have been edible. Nobody tried it, but it was thought to be OK. That was 4000 years old, so a month won't be a problem, cloudy or not.

Sort of gives the lie to 'sell by' dates, doesn't it?

Honey is the only natural food that will never go off

Mr O keeps bees (90,000 or so) and sells his honey to a shop.
It aggrieves me no end that on the labels he has to put a use by date of 3 years. Honey lasts forever!

Actually, there are other "natural" foods that won't go 'off'... ever. Salt being one of them and sugar another. Oh... and vinegar can be added to the list...

hello friend,this is normal for honey,it does not go off,but may crystelise,place the jar in a bowl of hot water for a while,that will take it back to its original stat.no need to store in the fridge.let me know if your happy with the result.cheers.
