Do bananas still taste and feel okay if they are frozen and thawed?

From experience I know frozen bananas make good banana breads, muffins and smoothies. As for eating a thawed, ripe banana, I don't know.

They become ice cream - have to be mashed and preferably added to milk to make a shake.
