I haven't seen them in supermarkets around here. Would be able to get them from a fishmonger? Why aren't they as widely and easily available as other seafood,,such as prawns, scampi etc?

Waitrose had brown shrimp a few months ago, I haven't looked for them recently.

Availability is a consequence of supply and demand not to mention harvesting and processing costs, they are a delicious product for a niche market sadly :-(
I saw them today in my Sainsbury's.
Are they good? What makes them special?

Thanks Eccles. Unfortunately my nearest waitrose is 40 miles away. :-(
Brown shrimp are special because they are local, haven't (or shouldn't have been) frozen and consequently have retained their texture and salty/sweet flavour.

I'm just wondering if they have a season, if they do this might be their down time.....swimming off to Mexico for a winter break etc.....
Sainsburys have recently been selling them as part of an offer, sorry can't remember the details. We had them with a little mayonnaise, watercress, or lettuce to make a delicious sandwich
