Labelling Meat And Poultry As 'halal'.
109 Answers
Assuming you are neither Muslim nor vegetarian, would you be put off buying meat if you knew it was slaughtered the Halal way?
I have had this email from Tesco.
"For example, all our New Zealand lamb meets Halal standards."
I know for a fact that this isn't labelled on the product nor sold in the Halal section - I would expect some sort of label or symbol to indicate to Muslims that the product is suitable for them.
Could it be that Tesco believe they would sell less it the meat was labelled as Halal?

Did you actually read your link, or are you just selecting bits to suit your 'in defence of Islam' agenda?
//'Stunning just gives you five seconds to get the chain around its leg and get it into a position to slaughter. It's not like an English stun, it just lasts five seconds, that's all. At the point that the throat is slashed, the animal has revived. It is kicking.'//

As the only diffrence between Halal slaughter and 'ordinary slaughter' is that Halal meat is slaughtered while verses of the Quran are being recited I don't see any diffrence. A 'Halal' slaughter house just has a loudspeaker with a tape loop of recitations from the Quran playing in the background as the animals are being killed. The rest of it is the same 'use a sharp knife , make a deep incision , ensure the jugular vein is cleanly severed, drain all blood. That is standard for any slaughter house , you are hardly likedly to use a blunt knife are you ?.
The simple measure of a tape playing the Quran means that the meat can be sold as Halal with out more expence.
Jewish slaughter for Kosher meat has to be carried out by a trained (Jewish) Kosher slaughter-man under conditions prescribed by the Synagogue in a specific Kosher slaughter house , which is exempt from the regulations ( about stunning the animal first) that other slaughter houses ,including Halal must keep to.
But we don't seem to hear much complaint about that.
