Low calorie alcoholic drinks

I'm trying to cut down on my beer intake but would like a low calorie alcoholic alternative.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  White spirits?  Red wine?

If you're thinking of drinking White Spirit why not 'push the boat out' and go for the Methylated Spirits? ;-)

You are in luck here. There used to be nothing except Kaliber which was at one time awful, but is now good. There are also low-alcohol beers from Becks and Holsten which are excellent. Sainsbury's do their own low-alcohol German lager as well and stock all the others I have mentioned. I tried them for 4 days but went back to trusty Bud. 

You could also try tomato juice with Worcester sauce (has to be Lea and Perrins) with loads of extra-hot Tabasco or Encona or the like - give it a kick.

Meths gives me heartburn! ;)  I did mean like Gin, Vodka etc. ;)

BTW I live in Germany but I think they have some low alcohol beers but I hate the taste of them.  I'd prefer either shorts or red wine... as long as I know it's better than Weissbier (wheat based beer).

Any white spirit and diet mixer is generally a lowish calorie option.

Also, if you like lager, try to get hold of some Coors Lite or Bud light - they are lower in carbs and lower in calories than the normal versions

Not really keen on lager, plus in Munich most beers with artificial additives are forbidden from being sold - only natural stuff allowed here!

Sorry, KM, missed the word 'alcoholic'.  Bourbon, bourbon. Try Wild Turkey or Jim Beam, and do not add ice or coke. Just chuck it down but not if you have to work the next day.

It's okay kempie, I don't speak much German anyway, I'm actually British but I live/work in Munich! ;)

Haven't seen any alcopops sort of stuff.

I think I'm going to go for red wine or vodka & diet coke or G'n'T.

When people ask in magazines etc which is the lowest calorie alcoholic drink they are always told to drink vodka with a diet mixer.

 

If you are going for wine, rose has the least calories, then red then white.  BTW dont bother with weightwatchers win, its vile!

Germans keep the best German red wine for themselves (quite rightly) so fill your boots, it is fairly neutral for dietary purposes.  Failing that, any distilled spirit @ 40% ish plus a zero calorie mixer (diet pop or plain water).  Don't do the wine and coke mix in Bavaria, it should be a criminal offence. 

Wheat beer is about 1000 calories a pint, so is not dissimilar to eating a large chocolate cake every hour.  Sadly.

 Prune juice is good! It's alcohol free. Just imagine it's beer- it's brown!
