diddlydoo, defy away, I do my full shop there every week and apart from one thing -Malvern salt, I can get everything I need. I'm a foodie, I like my 28 day aged meat, free range chicken, my smoked salmon , gravlax, authentic chorizo, Italian parmesan and extra virgin olive oil -all from Aldi. At the moment I'm partaking of a very creamy chardonnay at £ 3.49 a bottle, very drinkable and better than some stuff I was given as a gift from M&S that cost twice the price.
I don't really have a favourite supermarket. It depends where I am. I have never shopped in Aldi or Lidl.....it has never occurred to me to do so. My local Morrisons is the worst I have ever seen, but the one local to my parents is fantastic and has a wonderful selection of weird and wonderful fruit and veg. My local Sainsburys is very good as is my local Tescos but the ones local to my parents are awful. Waitrose and M&S are the only two where the quality remains the same in every one I set foot in.
I took my mother -aka Hyacinth bucket- shopping to Marks and Spencer's the other day and went around shocked at the prices she was paying for basic things. It must be good because its from M&S just doesn't make sense and isn't true. But she likes to shop there so whatever floats your boat as they say. For me shopping is getting what I want at the best price and as quickly as possible. I don't buy into this supermarket snobbery.
I do main shop at ASDA but like also for cereal...cold meats...their frozen fish lamb and various stuffed joints are excellent ...particularly like the salmon in dill en croute..wines and spirits and of course......CHOCOLATE !!!
murraymints, the salmon wellington is lush, serve it with their Budvar chardonnay at £3.49 a bottle and some extra fine French green beans £0.99p There lemon marscopone, or belgium chocolate cheescake will finsih the meal nicely, followed by their ground coffee which is half the price of normal ground coffee and very palatable as is there chilli chocolate or chocolate stuffed with sour cherry mousse.
