Other than on toast does it have any other tried and tested ways of being used in food?

Not a food use, but a highly effective contraceptiv e if one partner 'loves' it and the other 'hates' it - never reach kissing distance, let alone anything else!

loulou111 marmite really brings out the taste of mushrooms. put a small amount of water or stock in a pan add your mushrooms sliced quarters or whole, bring to a boil -at this point the water will start to come out of the mushrooms -at this point add 1 level teaspoon or less of marmite stir and cook until the water has evaporated -no need for salt but you can add a bit of pepper -hardly any calories. You can also add marmite to homemade mushroom soup.
Another recipe - sauté onions carrots and celery in a little butter, add a can of cooked green lentils and a teaspoon of marmite stir well -top with cheesy mash for a veggie cottage pie.

Mix softened butter with marmite to get a umami taste. It's fabulous
