i don't think so - all pans need a teeny weeny yellow bit of OIL - I think your egg may stick - non stick fry pans - don't do what they say on the tin LOL
I would never try to fry an egg without a little bit of oil, even though it maybe non stick.
do you know what I tried one day and t worked - my big george forman grill - fired the egg on and put the lid on for a minute or two - the egg run a little but it was still fat-free

Thanks - so what type of pan would you recommend for fried eggs and/or omelettes? I have a ceramic hob oven and wondered if cast iron might be suitable, or whether I should get a small non stick pan.

And thanks for the George Foreman option - sadly kitchen storage and working space are limited :(
A ceramic frying pan would probably suit your needs.

I do sometimes. I have a Tefal and find it works ok. However, I like the yolk to go pink on the outside so do usually put in a bit of oil so that I can baste it.
Pink yolks? What kind of eggs are they?
I have never tried it, but my brother does this all the time !
Is it really a fried egg without any oil at all?
Yes I have the jml ceramic frying pan and I bought it for this purpose. Only thing turn the heat down after you put egg in . My cooker has the solid plates so I turn it off and leave it while doing toast ect. Buy a good brand because the cheap ones don't work so well.
You can COOK an egg in a good non-stick pan without oil (and it won't stick)...but, by definition, it won't be FRIED.
Sandyroe, the yolks are yellow but if you baste them with oil/fat the top turns a pinky colour.
What;s wrong with putting a drop of oil in the pan, then wiping it clean with a paper towel? The sheen of oil that's left will ensure the egg won't stick. You can do this using butter, too, (as I sometimes do), but then it's best if the pan is warmed first.
An egg isn't a "fried" egg unless it's fried in lots of butter. If you don't want any fat used, why not poach th egg instead?
Eggs dripping in oil. ...yeuch yeuch...
In my experience non-stick pans are never non-stick for ever, the cheaper the pan, the shorter its life.
I recently splashed out on a new set of ceramic non-stick pots and pans and they all seem to do the job ok without any oil/butter etc. Having said that, I never eat eggs so haven't tried "frying" one. All I can say on their behalf is that they are VERY easily cleaned and maintained.

Thanks for your answers. I've never been a fan of fried foods, and often poach eggs, but they come out a little 'thick' to put in a sandwich, and I've had a craving for bacon and egg sandwiches. I grill the bacon of course, just the medallions.

I also love omelette but have never got the hang of cooking them without making a mess. I have now bought myself a lovely little nonstick pan with curved edges, and it cooks eggs beautifully - no more raggy messy omelette!
