In between trying to help you Conne I am sat here writing recipes.
When writing up recipes I give detailed information so that home cooks can recreate the recipes I cook for them. It is incredible the number of times I encounter people who say 'Well mine wasn't as good as when you cooked it!', so I walk them through my recipe and quickly determine that they think they know better and it isn't necessary to follow the carefully planned steps of my recipes method! No bloomin' wonder yours and their meals haven't turned out as the recipe author intended!
Both Bernie, I spent years as a home taught cook and then took formal, classical training.
It means I don't live in an ivory tower as I know what it is to be a home cook but I also have a more formal 'cheffy' mind when I approach cooking and problem solving.
I meant to add that Ummmm's approach is a good one, follow to the letter first time and adjust to taste in future.
With the exception of baking (which is much more about science) cooking is very subjective, following a baseline to start with a new recipe is a good guideline.
ok eccles thx when i left school 30 yrs odd ago i trained to be a chef at college loved it. do find it hard to believe when people say they cant cook, have a go i say the only way to learn.
i'm sure mrs c wont mind me saying this when we 1st got married she did not have much of an idea how to cook from scratch, so i showed her, she's not to bad a cook now, but she prefers if i do it and i don't mind
If I was rich enough I'd do all the cooking and pay someone to clear up after.
I also don't understand how people can't cook. My sister would look in the cupboards/fridge and think there was nothing to eat yet I could make a meal out of it.
I think it is the instinct thing Ummmm, some people instinctively know what will work together and others don't, be it through a lack of experience or confidence.
I do all the cooking and Mr cake does.....most of the clearing up, there is always something still lying around in the kitchen after he's done his chores!
friend of mine lives on his own and he lives on takeaways no wonder he is always skint! got a pizza leaflet through the door £17.99 for a pizza you must be joking!!
