Does anyone remember the really cheesy topless pie/quiche that we used to get for school dinner? I loved it, especially if the top was slightly overdone! Are there any ex-school cooks out there that might have the recipe? Better than any shop bought savoury!

I used to love this but I reckon if we had it today we'd probably think it was crap.
It was my favourite school dinner..cheese pie, baked beans and mashed potato. Everyone else seemed to loathe it and I could never understand why, it was so tasty. In fact, I loved all school dinners except mince, which seemed to be minced up gristle floating in watery gravy and generally served with over cooked cabbage.
Plum, gooseberry or rhubarb crumble were particular favourites of mine too, and I usually ended up eating the whole tray which was meant for eight people as no one else liked it.
gosh..es..the overcooked cheese ..yum...then mint custard and lemon curd slice !
There's a website for everything these days ;-)

I remember the cheesy flan thing. I remember it being quite thick and served with beans and mash as Ethandron says. I didn't like it as it had a soggy bottom and was quite greasy. The mash wasn't very nice either.

I used to love gypsy tart though.
