I don't have one for chutney, Maisie, but I do have one for Red Tomato Relish which we all like.

6lbs ripe tomatoes
2lbs onions, sliced
half cup salt
Malt vinegar
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1and a half lbs sugar
2 tablespoons curry powder
2 dessertspoons mustard powder
3 tablespoon cornflour
1 teaspoon ground mace
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg

Skin tomatoes. (Boiling water, cold water, skins slip off)
Cut into chunks.
Put tomatoes, onions and salt in large bowl and cover with water . Allow to stand overnight. Next morning, pour off brine. Put into large pan and almost cover with malt vinegar. Bring to boil. Add sugar, stir well to dissolve.
Mix curry powder, mustard and cornflour to a smooth paste with a little cold vinegar. Stir into the mixture and then boil all together 30 minutes to 1 hour until very thick.
Take off heat then add mace, pepper, ground ginger , ground cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir well.
Pot and cover as usual.

This is good right away , but even better after a week or two.

Hope this will do.
Do you have a glut ?

Sounds great Alex. Thank you. I'll give it a go.. Not at the moment but I've found some great vine tomatoes that are really cheap and fancy making a chutney/ relish.... I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Hope all is well with you and Yours xxx
Hi Mazie
All fine now, thanks for asking.
We had a bad Spring with family illnesses and eventually a death, (ancient auntie) but things are definitely looking up now.
The son-and-heir has moved to Belgium to work which is only a hop and a skip away compared to the US, so we are much happier.
Hope you and yours are all well too and that you enjoy the relish.

Sorry for your loss Alex.... And so pleased son and heir is closer. Mine are all still in Edinburgh and we visit every month so all good. Lost my Mum last November, that was really tough :o(

Off to Edinburgh a week on Sunday and bringing the children down for 2 weeks so can't wait :o) Lots of Ice cream making on the go. Nice talking, I miss you on AB. Take care xxxx
Thanks again, Mazie.
I think I'll be back a bit more now that things are better for me. (Too much to do up until now.)

Are they going to do MagicFest in Edinburgh ?
It starts on Friday I think. (Depends if you like magic or not, I suppose. We are totally hooked.)

Not sure Alex, I'll mention it to Anna, she's off next week and I'll send her a link.. She loves doing stuff with the kids and the grandson would love it.. so thank you. You might just see them there... Looks good... I'll send her this link now

We discovered it a couple of years ago and have been going since.
(But it is almost an illness with us.)
There are lots of different shows and venues in the city centre with loads of kids' stuff as well as the more adult ones.
Hope they enjoy it if they go.
