Was at the CU (credit union) on Monday and about 6 colleagues raved about salt & chilli chicken from the Chinese.
Treated myself to one last night and it was appalling.
There is "batter" on the chicken which literally had been "battered" to death with a taste of hotness. Horrendous meal.
Also got an Indian last Sat (takeaway) - maybe it would help if the Indians would smile. Takeaway was £9.20 - I lost my breath - that by the time I got it back - the order was already in. Putrid too.
I should have got myself £10 deal from M&S.
Today I bought Hamshank - large chicken - cut turnips (turmits) - have already cooked - you know what I'm not one bit hungry.
However, I am going to cover it in cling film and will have it tomorrow.
Rarely eat takeaways. Not that I dislike them it just never occurs to me to buy one. Also, by the time you've bought enough food to feed 4 people it's very expensive.
I very rarely have takeaways but when I do I order enough for 5 people and end up living on curry for 2-3 days. I hate garlic and the taste it leaves in your mouth for the next 24 hours - you can imagine how I feel after a 3 day curry binge.
I'm babysitting tonight so the takeaways will be coming in, mmmmm chicken tikka main with pilau rice and a cheese naan bread.
snags: Aww come on, JJ is making a good point about takeaway restaurants though. Although not all are bad. It seems like she has had a bad run of luck with them.
£9.20 is about the normal going rate for a 'main'. I wouldn't shop at M&S as my personal preference is Tesco (only because it's closer, the food isn't bad and I know and get on with all the staff). Each to ones own I suppose :)
sandyRoe: I went to this restaurant in the city of Edinburgh (I'll try and remember the name... might take me a while) and if it wasn't for my ex-wife being present I would of said to the waiter "At least Dick Turpin wore a mask". For the two of us, two courses and a bottle of wine cost £128. It was a posh place though, it had to be for that money. The next night I went to the chip shop about 20 metres away :) lovely stuff. It's a shame I was absolutely paralytic and the next day my ex-wife and I went in and the owner decided to tell her just how much of a drunken idiot I was (but funny). Well that was the end of that holiday!
