Do you think we are safe ordering takeaways with this virus doing the rounds, I am a bit wary incase the cooks/chef may have mild symptoms and not realise they have it, and then passing it through the food.

There’s a lot of risk factors involved in takeaways, collected or delivered. Contact with many unknown people, contact with ‘slightly’ ill staff who can’t afford to stop working, etc, etc.

We’re not risking it at present.

There is no evidence to suggest that COVID-19 is passed on through food. The main risk of transmission is from close contact with infected people. The advice to food businesses and consumers is to maintain good hygiene practices and to wash your hands regularly. Thorough cooking will kill the virus.

No, not through food, but certainly through surfaces - cardboard, metal, plastics are all carriers.

There's a possibility following today's announcement that local councils may deliver food and provision to the most vulnerable - should they refuse those too?

We’ve decided that once a week we’ll order a takeaway from one of our local struggling restaurants. I don’t think the chances of infection are any greater from a takeaway than they would be for scrambling for loo roll in Tesco

I have noticed in my local Indian Takeaway the free Bombay mix has not got such a good taste since everybody started washing their hands

I may be a bit paranoid, but I run a heatgun over the wrapping etc., before touching it. And yes, wash my hands after opening it. (I hope the virus is destroyed by heat, otherwise I'm wasting my time)

You buy more and cook that. At least you know how it was prepared and are already in contact with the cook. Ideally get the government to deliver all suppies in a medically cleaned sealed box and left on your path.

Half the stuff on my Tesco delivery is out of stock. So, where do I buy more food? I don't have a car so can't travel from supermarket to supermarket.

We won't go hungry but there certainly won't be extras as I have to wait 3 weeks for a delivery.
