Please remember I am not much of a cook so could anyone recommend a cheese sauce I can use when freezing pasta - bear in mind I'm not averse to using something like Elm leigh - in fact that is to be encouraged by me
With a cheese sauce, I would always use a very mature and strong cheddar. If I have any cambazola or similar, then I add that for an extra kick. Don't forget to also add English mustard.
cheese sauce is dead easy to make, melt butter & add flour, stir together to make a roux, slowly add your milk until you get a white sauce, then add your cheese of choice. I like a mix of strong cheddar & emmental , plenty of pepper, keep the heat low to medium, you don't want it to boil
you can use what you like :-) i expect it will be very heavy & rich though, i love cheese sauces but the thought of that is too much for me. try it, let us know what its like
Jennyjoan - Bisto does cheese sauce granules! On their own they make a terrible sauce, but if your roux and sauce goes a bit runny a spoonful is good to thicken it. Don't tell everyone.:)
