Can anyone suggest a standard high-street shop I could walk in to and buy something suitable to strain through sloe gin and blackberry brandy. Something fine enough to catch all the sediment etc and what would I ask for?
I was wondering jam/jelly making kit or Mothercare even??

Muslin from a drapers.
Do you have a home brew shop nearby? They would have everything you need I'm sure ;-)
Muslin from any draper or some department stores I get mine unbleached at around £2.50 a metre.
With sloe gin strain initially through a normal kitchen sieve, then strain the juice you collect through the muslin
Coffee filter papers if you are stuck?

Thanks, I hadn't thought of actually going to a drapers and buying a piece!
UKSWF I have used coffee filters before snd they are a last resort but they are reeeeeaaallly slow and you can't do much at a time.
If I can't find where I've hidden the muslin I use a j cloth.
In an emergency I've used the leg off a pair of tights!
You can ( or used to be able) to buy a filter funnel from lakeland. Use this for the first straining, then strain it again with the funnel lined with a piece from a pair of tights. I have found that coffee filters actually alter the flavour of the spirit.
If you want a very fine filter, used a piece of fabric from an old pillow-case to line the funnel..
Women's tights. second hand(or maybe foot) will give a slight stronger flavour
i always us muslin as suggested by Retrochic - easy/cheap enough to use and throw away.
i get mine at the market for around £2/metre

If you cba to go to a drapers, I buy baby Muslins from Tescos. Although I have also done the j-cloth thing, like Eccles suggested.
I use kitchen roll (tissue) paper.
