From what I can remember as a kid Smash is disgusting

Real mash - making it ain't rocket science, and it's probably cheaper to make than the packet stuff
I would rather have something else, mamya. The kids won't touch smash either.
That is very true, Joe, but the potatoes my corner shop sell make the crappest mash ever. I'd rather have smash.

In case people think I use smash...I don't :-)
As I said, I use frozen and add olive oil and butter or chives or spring onions - it's a really handy product.
Frozen mash is okay, it doesn't taste too bad.
someone had to do this, may as well be me.....

I think frozen mash is a different thing altogether and the onion and chives would make it really tasty.. good idea when not cooking for a crowd...which I'm slowly learning - cooking for one is *** yet a learning curve
ummmm......change shops to one which sells decent taties?
Oh golly NO, the very food of the devil. Given this to eat as children and had to oblige as no alternative, it is one of those foods I have never eaten as an adult , nor will I. The only good thing Smash ever produced was the advert.
Joe...I do. I only buy Roosters. I rarely run out of spuds though.
I do buy spuds, but can't carry heavy bags and use a stick - so if I fancy mash always have some to hand.

As always can't beat the real thing.
Does anyone remember Quip rather than Smash? My nan used to use it.
Given the choice I'd pick a nice buttery mash over chips any day
I find it very difficult to peel spuds ,in fact it's difficult to peel anything with my arthritic hands .I'm sporting a couple of plasters atm from gouging bits out of my fingers with the peeler .Morrisons frozen mash is very nice .I add some cream ,butter and pepper .Lovely creamy mash .
Maris Piper for mash and roasting, something waxier for spud dishes like a gratin dauphinois, ones that require baking as in a hot pit.....
A great jingle, "For Mash Get Smash", with music written by Cliff Adams.

Nice writeup here:
