That you don't have to cook, get more choice of meat/veg/gravy :-)

I love them if they are of decent quality.
I find them a bit fraught, but just the fact I haven't had to cook is good for me.
Oh...and they are usually cheap. Eating out can get very expensive for a family with kids.
I like a nice carvery, no cooking, and a good meal. Lots of choice too.

I think the challenge is in finding a good one, my limited experience has felt like a canteen serving up generic gravy and carrot coins and the beef seems to be always medium to well done.

I do appreciate having someone else doing the cooking but there are times when I think I'd rather have stayed home and had a cheese sarnie.
There's one not too far from me that do a carvery 7 days a week. Mon-Sat is £4.95 and it's £5.95 on a Sunday.

It's surprisingly good.
I'd say the price, mainly. Also it's not too bad. The potatoes are often quite nice, for example.

I've not been to one in ages, but it's a cheap, easy option that doesn't leave you disappointed. Except possibly their insistence on not giving you the skin of the turkey because of "elf and safety" or some such. Gits.

But yeah, it's quite nice even though you can get better, and about as cheap as you can get. I definitely prefer my mum's cooking though.
I have a friend that is a particularly fussy eater, eating only a handful of different foods. We travel a little further out for a decent carvery and a few drinkies. The atmosphere is good, the staff are friendly and accommodating. The food is nice, and also cheap at only £7.95 for a meal. Weather dependent, it's a few hours in the beer garden afterwards.

Trick is to get there early whilst the food is still freshish

On one of the weekdays, a carvery is only £6, and it gets really busy.
I don't like carveries and I've been to many. The meat is always overcooked, I like lamb and beef to be pink and seeing people on the next table tucking in plates filled so high I'm surprised they could carry them turns my stomach.

Also someone else has to do the washing up, all those greasy plates...

went there a while ago, booked for 4 carveries and when we got there they were removing the food and had turned off the lighs above it, needless to say after a few rants we got our carveries. a friend of mine had sunday lunch there a few weeks ago and said it was lovely!
Find a good one and you get a choice of great sliced meats and much healthy veg, plus gravy. What's not to like ? Not been to one for ages though. They tend not to coincide with when I wish to eat.
You can choose your own portion sizes, too.
I like carveries, but the again I never have gravy and I don't like under cooked beef.
Never hot enough for me and I dont like queing up for food
Vile things - overcooked meat. overcooked veg, gloopy artificial gravy - yuk! I'd rather have an M&S sandwich any day.
My lot love a cavery because they can have as much of what they like and ignore what they don't. I'll eat one under sufferance (a roast dinner is not my favourite thing). I like over cooked meat so that suits me fine and I only push the veg around so I'm not bothered about it too much.
