(a) Lob your slow cooker back in the cupboard. ( Unnecessary gadget imo and no good for me)
(b) Ordinary lidded casserole dish and google Phil Vickerys Lamb shank, chorizo and chick pea casserole dish.
This recipe appeared on ITV. this morning back in 21/09/2010. Hope you can find it.. Slow cookers are nonsense. Just lower the heat in your oven and let it do the work until you come home from work. No probs, Always worked for me . I will try to retrieve the recipe for you.

Our oven has a 'slow' setting 86 Deg C .I can put a lidded casserole or saucepan in it and it used very little energy. Remember it is insulated so loses little heat, where a slow cooker is not insulated just a heated pot on a work top. I would think a well insulated oven on slow will use less power than a slow cooker. Plus you can get more in an oven for the same energy input.I cooked a 15Lb turkey plus a 5 lb gammon and a large beef joint overnight in the same oven on 'slow' last Christmas. They all came out perfect moist and tender!
