I have tried electric ones, JLM ones and Culinare Magican ones, all to no effect, these tins seem to have a different rim to all ordinary tins.

I use electric for all tins - yes, even the square corned beef tins (don't use the key) and when I did eat them - the big Frey Bentos tins.

You need to position the tin correctly and let electricity do its work.
Woofy - a good product but do think AOG is looking for a tin opener.

Regards all the tops of jars and pull off lids. I just run mine under hot water and off they pop. Particularly nail varnish lids etc.

Also if you pierce the top of a jar you release pressure and that too makes it easy for jar opening.
Have you tried a bog standard "butterfly" type from ASDA?...we did and it only cost 49p, so we bought two and that was ages ago and we're still using one - on salmon tins too.
And if I may, I can't find 'my profile' so I can change my password.
Sorry AOG.

I'm with woodelf, the basic 49p version works better than any of the modern expensive ones.

I apologise for getting back late on this thread, but i thank you all for your answers.

It looks as if the cheap butterfly one is the most popular, so I think I might try that.

But does anyone know if the bull's head type is still available, you know the type one stabbed into the tin and then moved it up and down around the tin?

They left a jagged edge so perhaps they are banned for health and safety reasons.
Mr aog
I have about 25 ex army jack knives. All are made for the Belgium army in superior quality steel to the British issue rubbish. All have the tin opener you describe. If there were a way for me to get one to you I would happily send you one. They could open a Centurion Tank :-)
You'll pick a vintage Bull's Head one up but doubt any are still made.

I still have my Dad's old version of this...

Handy when out and about.
Well found, I was looking at the original sturdy Bull's Head ones, also known as Bully Beef Openers.

I have my father's old one of those. He bought it back from Cyprus in 1956.They came with the Army Rat Packs they were issued with in those days which contained tins instead of today's packets of rehydrated 'ready to eat meals'
Those tin tin openers are very popular on the continent but are larger and made of steel.
Yes, it's come in handy now and then.

Wow thank you Mamyalynne and retrocop for your additional input.

Brought back some memories for me, ah the army type jack knife retro, your dad's version mam, but that one from Amazon looks the ticket, and I may go for that thanks retro.

This is the one I was thinking about, just like me a bit of an antique now.

That one is not for you Mr aog
Now a British Bulldog head would fit the ticket!! :-)
