Anyone had these recently?
Bought some to feed the grandkids, have not had them for years.
They were terrible, no taste at all, if you ate them blindfold I swear you would not be able to tell the difference between the Cheese ones and the minced beef ones!. Now I've had them I feel sick they were so bad, they used to have a lot more taste. Anyone feel the same?
At least they were cheap 2 packs of 4 for £1.

At that price, cardboard would be more expensive, !!!! Give them toast.
I haven't eaten them for years. I don't think its worth buying very cheap food if you can afford to spend more.
Some time ago I saw a corned beef hash for £1 and bought it thinking "how bad can it be for£1. I love corned beef hash." It was terrible. Tasteless, mushy and cardboardy.
Did the grandkids like the crispy pancakes, anyway?

We used to have them years ago and the cheese ones actually tasted of cheese. Just checked the pack and these were 'New Recipe', I had not seen them in the shops for ages. That's the last time I'll be getting them. They have put me off eating anything else tonight.
EDDIE what we ate 30 years ago kids hate now - next time go for pizza you can't go wrong with a good quality brand pizza. I bought some Angel Delight a few months ago I loved it when I stayed with my English Gran -it was the height of sophistication apparently lol! It tastes blinking aweful now...disgusting.
Retro...I had one the other day and loved it :-)
Question Author
Retrochic, I loved Angel Delight but only the butterscotch flavour, haven't seen that in years now either.
You can get Angel Delight in Sainsbury's but it doesn't taste like it used to unless taste buds change as you get older. Butterscotch was my favourite too -My Nana used to serve it to us with tinned pears lol!

Now your making me remember tinned pears poached in Port, yummy.
Can you still buy Dream Topping ?
OH bought a Vesta Beef(?) Curry the other week and was most unimpressed, ditto when he bought a Fray Bentos tinned pie which we used to love as students, can't believe we survived!
It would appear so.

I think food memories do change as you get older. I used to love a stick of rhubarb and an eggcupful of sugar, but can't bear the thought of it now. Did I really like it back then?
We also used to have an eggcupful of Horlicks powder to dip our fingers in and lick. I can't bear the thought of that now, either.
Zeno, I was just thinking about Vesta curries, and wondered if they still exist.
^^^i typed zebo, not Zeno. Blooming autocorrect.
Question Author
Yes I'd eat a whole jar of Horlicks powder if given the chance. There were Horlicks tablets as well, remember them, they were like a block of compressed Horlicks?
I think it's more a change in recipe than taste. Last time I bought a Fray Bentos pie, which I used to love, it was very disappointing. Mainly gravy and very little meat.
Vesta Curries still exist, but only in cheap discount stores.
