Out Of Date Chicken Livers
12 Answers
I got the pack out of the freezer last night to defrost and I've just gone to start making late when I've noticed the sell by date - Dec 2014!! They look perfectly fine but I can't check smell as I have zero sense of smell. Shall I use, bin or give to cats??

Put a small piece in a pan, cook and taste. Then you can make decision if it is palatable or not. I have used meat I have found at the back of the freezer for longer than that and it has been OK>
I find that offal can get quite strong if frozen for a long time. I don’t think it would kill anybody but it might not be tasty. It certainly won’t have gone off if frozen. If it was me I’d bin it....certainly it would be safe for an animal but I’d be dubious about doing that because I have no desire to clear up after digestive distress!
