I wonder if anyone knows why the egg yolk in my sausage and egg McMuffin was grey around the edge? I've contacted McDonalds head office who were unable to help - many thanks

Cooked at too high a temperature then left to stand. Not harmless but not appetising either.

I think you mean 'not harmful', Tilly.

All my hard-boiled eggs turn out like that. Doesn't bother me.
Common occurrence with hard boiled eggs but not with fried or poached
"A greenish-gray ring may appear around a hard-cooked egg yolk. It's unsightly, but harmless. The ring is caused by a chemical reaction involving sulfur (from the egg white) and iron (from the egg yolk), which naturally react to form ferrous sulfide at the surface of the yolk. The reaction is usually caused by overcooking, but can also be caused by a high amount of iron in the cooking water."

Over boiled egg. Happens to me when I forget what time they satrted to boil.
Yes, I did mean harmful, Jackdaw.

Thanks for the BA, Daz.
The grey ring is because the hard-boiled eggs weren't cooled quickly in ice-cold water.
What is all the chat about hard boiled eggs? To the best of my knowledge McDonalds don't serve hard boiled eggs in a sausage and egg McMuffin.
No, they're fried on the griddle aren't they?
No mention of hard boiled eggs Eccles this is about an 'Egg McMuffin!' it does not have a hard boiled egg.
How *are* the eggs cooked in a Mcmuffin?
Griddled 'over easy' not hard boiled !

Eddie...everyone else has mentioned hardboiled.
Eccles comment was aimed at those answering Eddie.
Read the replies Eddie......many mentions of hard boiled eggs!
'Over Easy' is the only way to cook a fried/griddled egg!

We do 150 a day in the 'pro' kitchen I work in!
The question was about an 'Egg Mcmuffin' which has a griddled 'over easy' egg! NOT hard boiled!

Eddie the egg in an egg mcmuffin is not cooked over easy as it is rock hard in the middle.
Well it isn't the only way - I'm a Sunny side up girl myself.
Whoopity-doop, Eddie. Reading answers before barging in with you pro kitchen opinion always helps.
