They were in our staff room at work, I don't know what made me go back and check the date as they tasted fine.... Ah well thanks EDDIE51 I wont worry too much
I had some the other day. B.B July 2012.
Personally no, however, I used to work in a large cereal processing plant where we would often keep oats for 2 years without a problem in large silos. It was always treated with insecticides as are your oats (most likely).
I don't get my oats very often these days.
I've recently been trying to use up (or throw out) lots of stuff from the back of my kitchen cupboard. I've happily finished off things like porridge oats that have been over a decade beyond their nominal 'best before' dates.
I never see the point of taking such health risks to save just a few pence, if in doubt, chuck it out.
Best Before is just that. It's about the quality, but will be safe. It's Use By you should pay attention to, as those are for things that could become harmful.
yes
i wouldn't but oh would ,i'm surprised he hasn't got a pedal fixed to his foot he is like a bin ,eats anything out of date. lol
That's hardly a year over for something dry. I'd suspect there was no problem at all, but look and try.
Ratter:
Going beyond a 'best before' date is NOT a health risk. It's 'use by' dates which indicate a possible health hazard if they're exceeded, not 'best before' ones.

For example, a shop commits a criminal offence if they allow their staff to take home products which are just a few hours beyond the end of a 'use by' date but the same shop can sell products which are well beyond a 'best before' date without limit of time. (Indeed, there are many market stalls which only sell products that are beyond their 'best before' dates. I actively seek out those stalls).

'Best before' only indicates that the quality of the product (with regard to taste, texture or simply visual appeal) might become degraded after that date. With things like chocolates you won't notice any difference in the quality until a few months have passed after the end of the BB date. (Then the chocolate starts to look a little cloudy but still tastes OK for several months longer). With other products it can be several years before there's any noticeable decline in quality.
I have just said that :-). Use by is government- controlled.
I'm a slow typist, Pixie ;-)
There is a biscuit shop near me which only sells out of date goods. It does a roaring trade.
:-) x
Definitely. If they are still dry, no little friends also enjoying them and don't smell stale, then I wouldn't even think about it.
i've found an unopened jar of pickled onions with a best before date of oct 2015, my logic tells me they should be ok this christmas?

If unopened, then Yes.
