Wine : 0.75 x 0.12 = 0.09 litre alcohol Beer : 0.09 / 0.048 = 1.875 litre

Wine : 0.75 x 0.12 = 0.09 litre alcohol
Beer : 0.09 / 0.048 = 1.875 litre
Looking at it purely mathematically (which I presume is right)

12% of 75cl is 8cl

If 4.8% of beer is 8cl, then quantity of beer is 100*8/4.8 = 167cl, or 1.67 litres. I think!
CORRECTION.

Looking at it purely mathematically (which I presume is right)

12% of 75cl is 9cl

If 4.8% of beer is 9cl, then quantity of beer is 100*9/4.8 = 187.5cl, or 1.875 litres.
I'm glad you exposed my error JJ. In the first attempt I took 75% of 12 instead of 12% of 75 - Durrrrrrrrr.
Forget that - I'm having a Senior Moment here. I'll get my coat.

Thanks to you both. Which ever way I look at it I'm probably imbibing too much, but it's worth knowing. :0)
Didn't Oliver Reed (RIP) drink white wine out of pint glasses? It didn't do him any harm as far as I'm aware.

v_e, I'm not sure Olly would be a good role model

JJ/Canary; So a person drinking 2 litres of beer of the above strength is consuming more alcohol than someone drinking a bottle of wine - also as above?
Yes, as the wine is only about 2½ times as strong as the beer, and you're drinking about 2¾ times as much beer.

I think !

A bottle or wine at 12% has 9 units of alcohol. One pint of beer at 5.2% has 3 units.

Three pints of 5.2% beer = 1 bottle of 12% wine.

2 litres = 3.5 pints, so yes, 2 litres of beer can have more alcohol than one bottle of wine
