Yes, I know its only November, but if I have half a chance of being ready on time this year, I have to start thinking about it now.
Christmas Day my brother and his gf are entertaining us all to lunch. Roast pork, apple sauce etc. (I'm providing some stuff and another question will follow shortly)
Boxing Day I'm cooking for the OH and his daughter. Turkey has been requested. So this morning I tried to order a Norfolk Black. Seventy two ****** quid they wanted. SEVENTY TWO QUID?! For a turkey? I want a bird, not the whole damn farm. As one friend said to me, what has it been fed on? Hand peeled grapes whilst laying on a chaise longue? So it's an Aldi turkey crown....... with brussels and pancetta, turmeric and chilli roasted spuds, pistachio and mergoz sausage stuffing, gravy and whatever other veg I decide to serve up.
So, have you decided on your Christmas meal? What's it to be? Should I shut up (I've got about 3 questions all Christmas related lol).
I'm on my own a lot of the time Tamaris, I sometime just cant be bothered to cook just for me. On the other hand, it sometimes feels really nice to cook yourself something special, doesnt it? Just for you, to spoil yourself.
I had a fabulous Christmas on my own a few years ago. A bottle of bubbles, fajitas to eat and dreadful TV I was in seventh heaven.
Trying to keep the neighbours at bay was my biggest challenge.
I would often do a roast dinner for myself when home alone. The hardest aspect is buying loose veg so you don't end up with half a tonne of sprouts or whatever.
i am getting annoyed with the sprout sellers, sainsburys are the only ones doing them loose. As much as I love them I can't go through a whole bag that quickly....
I had a Christmas alone, Eccles, I ate bung in the oven nonsense from M&S, drank a nice couple of bottles of crisp white and watched back to back Sharpe. It was excellent.....
Hmmmm, sprouts. I can buy as few or as many as I need from the farm shop. I only EVER buy them for Christmas lunch. Do you guys eat them the rest of the time? Personally I hate them, but they are OK sauteed with some herbs and pancetta.
I think others get unnecessarily hung up on someone being alone at Christmas, I had a great day. Most importantly I wasn't subjected to another families rituals and their Great Aunt Maud getting squiffy on the sherry before lunch.
will be at my sister's - she handles the CD meal, turkey and the trimmings, an organic one that does not cost £72 down here! Will be joined by another sister and niece (and possibly nephew as he is studying/finishing projects for his genetics finals) and then, the big news if we can get the logistics in place, my eldest daughter visiting (lives in the States but who is in Israel at the moment).
My sister's Xmas cake is stellar as well.......already made and just needs icing up.
