I want to make my usual boiled fruit cake but find I only have gluton free flour in the house, can I simply use this in place of my usual flour or does it need something else to make it work.

You may be alright, there's a recipe here that uses it.

Don't know the answer - but I used to make a really good boiled fruit cake and I lost the recipe years ago. I would be very grateful if anyone could post it. I can't actually see that gluten-free would make any difference in a boiled cake mix, if that is any help.
Is the one above no good?

I don't bake much these days.

thanks Mamyalynne, that is very similar to my recipe, except for the flour, but I wonder why it calls for both bicarbonate of soda and baking powder, do you think I need both?
I'm no expert, maybe a baker will advise you - lots on here.
It's not the same at all, unhappily.

I made the cake using the SR gluton free flour that I had and it looks ok, have to wait a few days for it to mature before we cut it. And for Jourdain2 , my recipe is 12oz mixed dried fruit, 4oz sugar 4oz butter or marge,1 med egg 8oz SR flour 5fluid oz of water. place all except flour and egg in saucepan and simmer for 20minutes, cool completely stir, in beaten egg then flour, add a little extra liquid if needed and bake for 90 minutes at 150c. I also add some mixed spice. Hope this is useful.
