Dogs In Restaurants?

Do others think that all dogs (apart from guide dogs obviously) should be completely banned from restaurants? I do and would avoid any restaurant that claims to be dog-friendly as these smelly creatures have no place near food.

As long as an establishment serving food makes it clear who they cater for, then we all have the choice to choose where to go.

If there are people who like to take their dogs to a dog-friendly restaurant while they have a meal that's fine as surely all the other people eating their will be dog-friendly people too. Don't like dogs then don't go.

I regret to say that one can realise too late that a place allows dogs in i.e. after having ordered someone comes in with their beloved pooch which proceeds to wander around and annoy/sniff/slobber over other diners.

In that case ask the owner to keep the dog under control.

Well diddly then that person is at fault and should have looked at the dog-friendly sign on the door as they entered.

My favourite Devon pub has a sign which reads

“Well Behaved Dogs are welcome in the Bar - there is a shed for children at the bottom of the Garden”

For me, well behaved dogs or children are fine - there are plenty of the first, and sadly all too few of the second.

If you are a dog lover and want to take a dog with you then it is only sensible to use a 'Dog Friendly' restaurant. Likewise any others using it would also not mind dogs being present . But it should be up to each place to set its own rules and have them clearly on display. So if you don't want dogs around just use a 'No dogs allowed' restaurant.

Is their a sign?
I am an animal lover, but I would not care to eat in a restaurant that allowed dogs for health reasons.

i mean if you wont go in a place that allows dogs why are you ok with guide dogs? tbh i'd rather have dogs than howling kids any day. i'm just grateful the smelliest of all ain't indoors now, smokers.

Would rather have well behaved dogs around me than badly behavedd loud humans and besides that there are more smelly humans around than smelly dogs. if you go in a dog friendly pub or restaurant, then expect dogs. If you don't like them go elsewhere. It's the landlord's decision who is welcome.

I agree all establishments that allow dogs should have clear signage.
The alternative to not taking your guide dog in is walking into peoples tables and sitting on strangers knees.

Could be a fun day out I suppose.

Quite happy to eat in dog friendly restaurants but do not wish to eat in restaurants where there are badly behaved children or adults. I don't wish to eat next to noisy and/or drunk people either. Had more meals out ruined by the behaviour of people and never had one ruined by a dog.
