Hi Gastronaut ABers out there, I've just found a wonderful recipe for chocolate covered pecan toffee, which I would really like to make in the not too distant future. I don't have a problem with any of the amounts as I've got one of those Tala conical measuring cups which has American measures on it, but what about "a cup (2 sticks) of butter". What's a cup of butter? How much does it weigh? Hope someone can help, best wishes, Cheers, Chox.

according to google, a stick of butter is 4 oz.
A stick of butter is 4 ounces (113g):
https://www.bhg.com/recipes/how-to/cooking-basics/how-many-grams-are-in-one-stick-of-butter/

So your cup is a half pound of butter (226g).
A cup is approx 8oz and a stick is around 2oz.

I bought a set of measuring spoons (quite cheap) so that I could do American recipes. A lot easier I think than measuring pounds and ounces (kilos and grams?)
Butter in the US comes in packs of 4 sticks, cannot remember the weight equivalent but will try to find out
"A cup is approx 8oz and a stick is around 2oz. "

An error in my last post - a stick is 4oz.
2 sticks is 16 tablespoons or 8oz or 227 grams. Enjoy
General consensus is 8oz rather than my 6oz so would go with that.

Many thanks everyone, for all your help. Really appreciate the answers, and they are all very helpful. I can now go ahead and make this wonderful chocolate toffee! Hope you all have great weekends! Cheers, Chox.
A cup is a measure of volume rather than weight so 8 floz is a cup of liquid whereas a cup of flour is around 4oz.
