Fresh V’S Frozen

Does anyone think there’s much difference between a fresh and frozen turkey crown? Surely, you’d have to be a meat connoisseur to notice any difference in taste.

I love turkey and usually get a frozen one if I can find one in the supermarkets during the year. I always get a fresh one from our village butcher for Xmas and there is a huge difference in the texture and taste. However, we often have a family buffet before Xmas and as I'm catering for a crowd I will use a frozen one. They are still nice but really not the same as a fresh one."

Barmaid - a crown is a present to myself and the kids. Whenever we’ve had a whole turkey himself always has the ‘bright’ idea to ‘pick the bones’ to badly reproduce some skanky, horrid meal that his mam used to make. The kids hate his cooking so they’ll be miserable and I’ll be stressed that they’re hungry. Much easier to shove the leftover meat in some rolls :)

No, I don’t think there’s much, if any, difference.
We always buy a ready basted frozen turkey, except for twice..once was an expensive fresh turkey from the local award winning butcher and no one noticed the difference. The other time we ‘treated’ ourselves to a goose, never again, cost a blooming fortune and had little edible meat.

If I was catering for a lot of children and adults I would probably go for the cheaper one. I'm catering for adults and foodie adults at that -and there is a VAST difference in taste and texture if you cook the bird correctly. If you cook the turkey badly its gonna taste dry whether its a kelly bronze or a frozen from Aldi.
