Would You Eat ...

I got three chilled meals from Tesco on Thursday. I wasn't notified of 'short dates' so I just assumed that they would last 4+ days each in the fridge.

However, I have just checked and the Sweet and Sour chicken is 'eat by' 10/7 which was yesterday. Would you eat it?

I am sure that Tesco will refund the cost but I loathe throwing food out.

I'd eat it. There is usually a bit of leeway on manufacturers dates as they to be super careful.

As long as it's been in a fridge 24 hrs is not a problem.

Yeah, I'd eat it. Best before dates are only guidelines, food doesn't suddenly perish on it's expiry date.

mozz its not a best before, its an eat by. I would eat it today but not tomorrow.

'Eat by' means just that - eat by that date or it could make you sick.

'Best before' just means the product may no longer be at its best ( but not gone off) if consumed after that date.

I would not eat it as it contains chicken which goes off pretty quickly.

APG if the chicken were raw then I wouldn't eat it either but I think chicken cooked in sauce and sealed in a protective environment is safer.
