I'm tempted to have a crack at recreating this healthy and nutritious dish from my childhood in Scotland. What are the practicalities, though? Are the pies cooked in an oven first or microwaved prior to frying?

Are they an actual thing?
Deep fried pies?, I’ll watch this thread .
Sounds like a heart attack on a plate. Or in a sandwich if you're prefer...

I thought Scotland were known for their deep fried mars bars not pies. Saying that I have known my late father to heat up pies in a chip pan and none of the oil actually went into the pie.

Right, I should clarify! In the health food establishments known as chippies in Scotland, you can purchase a steak or a mince (mutton, not fruit) pie, deep fried. With chips, of course.
Not the chippies where I grew up you couldn’t!
Can get a pie supper in Dundee, but they're not deep fried. At least I don't think they are - heated in an oven.
You can get a pie supper all over the UK. Just not put in a deep fat fryer.
I'd be chatting to the person behind the counter for some hints.

Well - I wouldn't but you might want to.
By definition, isn't a pie baked?
The Scots have a lot of half-baked ideas, so need to deep-fry to finish the cooking.
Pass the jellies eels please you soft southern sorts.

Now THAT'S disgusting.
Anyone ever have fried pork pie with their Full English? Deeeeeelishus.
At a guess, in a chippy I reckon they would simply take the hot cooked pie from the warming cabinet, dip in batter and fry till crisp.
They're not battered, neither are the steak pies or the majority of pizzas.

Don't know where you all get these odd ideas from. :-)
Ah, pie straight in the hot oil?

OK
I read this as deep fried peas. I'm relieved to find I was wrong.
