Got the cool/hot box warming. Going to the local chippy, then drive to one of the millstone edges, probably Burbage. Scoff them and have a nice evening walk. The high life, eh?

A pot of tea, yes, but why a side plate of yet more carbohydrate? I could never eat it, I couldn't even manage all the chips.
Oh I could manage it back in the day, probably not now, as you do tend to get a lot of chips.
Yes, exactly Jackdaw.
I love a chip butty though when the chips are piping hot and all the butter melts!
Sounds lovely! Enjoy.
Nailit, traditional chippies used to do black peas and butter beans. When I lived in Ancoats, Manchester, there was a chippy accross the road called Jimmy Carrs'. When you went in, there was sawdust on the floor because he also sold sheets of ribs. You could buy cabbage and ribs. Cooked I mean! And his chips were the best for miles around. In north Manchester, there are lots of chippies, all very yummy. And fish fried in oil, with chips from fresh potatoes, not frozen. I prefer Tommys'. That's the name. If you're visiting the North, I would definitely NOT recommend Harry Ramsdens. I wasn't impressed at all by their fish and chips. Find a small independent, like The Mod Cod, near here. Really, really nice. Are you all in the mood for fish and chips now? :o)
What would you pay extra for a pickle onion with the fish & chips then ?
Wish we could get them for that price, £7.50 where we are in Devon.
19.10 Margie, you have described it perfectly , I could just eat one right now.
Jack...you don't have to eat it all. We always got a portion of chips to share.
Should have been yesterday, melv, as it was National Fish & Chips Day. Pity that mine doesn't open on a Saturday night. Was too busy yesterday by the time I'd finished work...
A pickled onion used to be 2d, but God knows what they would charge now.
Did you get them from Palmers or Berrys on Station Road,Jack?
Palmer's was dead opposite our house. I don't remember Berry's, the only one I recall on Station Road was Miller's, by the Buddle School.
Berrys was next to Mathews Pie and Pea shop, just before the Elite hairdressers.
Four penn'orth o' chips. Those were the days. And peas weren't "mushy peas" they were just "peas". And all chippy peas were mushy.
And when the fair came, we were straight in the black-pea tent for a chipped mug full of peppery black peas in liquor with an alloy spoon.
I remember the Elite hairdressers' but not the pie and pea shop. Perhaps you are a little bit older than me.
Iluv 19:10. And the butter runs down your arms!

Not much walking done as it was lagging it down.
2 medium cod, 1 portion of chips and a large peas came to £11-20. Compared to a large pizza which are about £20-00 seems reasonable.
