I want my boiled eggs so they have runny yolk but completely set whites
How long would people recommend? In cold water to begin with or into boiling water?

I love this question, it crops up every now and again and there are so many opinions:) I place the egg in a saucepan of cold water; turn the heat on medium-high; and leave it alone for 7 minutes. 92.6785% of the time it turns out great:) Now, do you savagely behead the egg with a knife, or gently tap it's skull and carefully remove the broken shell?

That reminds me, I have not had a boiled egg for about a year. One thing I don't do that you British seem to like to do is dip toasted soldiers in the yolk. I just take a spoon-full of the egg and follow it with a bite of buttered bread.
I am am amazed at how long everyone boils their eggs for.

We store ours at room temperature. I put two in a pan with enough cold water just to cover them.

Bring to the boil, as soon as water is boiling, leave for one minute and twenty seconds and out.

Two eggs with firm whites and runny yolks.

Never fails.

Keep eggs at room temperature, into simmering water for 4 minutes. Most of you seem to prefer them hard-boiled!

Personally i prefer my eggs poached. Years ago we used to have a while disc with 4 compartments for yr eggs and this device sat on a pot of boiling water. But i havent this device in the shops lately.
The 6min rule worked for me. I boiled 2 eggs seperately. Shud i have boiled 'em together? Or boil longer?

Start in cold water + 2min boil. Pls boil safe from kids to avoid scald accidents ie Storm Huntley.

Break raw egg in bowl add dash milk, fork whisk & micro for 30secs. spread on toast.

Scrambled egg is safer & no chance of cooking a duff egg
I can make a lamb biryani from scratch no tins or sauces but I cannot boil an egg properly

Room temperature eggs, warm water. Bring to boil , boil 2.5 - 3 mins depending on size, never failed me yet. For hardboiled leave in for 8 - 10 minutes then plunge into cold water.
Same as Danny , boiling water for 6 minutes

Tambo thats never going to happen: I have my own hens and know how to test for a bad egg, as have people for hundreds of years.
