Froze Some Food Which Is "Unsuitable For Freezing"

I didn't notice when I put it in the freezer. It's M&S Bacon & Liver, with Buttery Mash and Rich Onion Gravy. Does anyone know which bits are likely to be affected or will the lot be inedible?
Doubtless the dog will find it edible regardless of the result.

Depends on how long ago, most of it should be ok but bacon is a bit iffy. Taste a bit of the bacon, it will be obvious as it is easy to tell.

One or more of the ingredients may well have been frozen before, most likely the liver.

It could actually be the potato, as potato does not always freeze well

You can buy frozen liver and bacon, and mash, and gravy, so I’m not sure why it’s unsuitable for freezing. I have sometimes frozen things myself, which say unsuitable for freezing and gone on to eat them, and have lived to tell the tale
Personally I’d give it a go.

It was delivered and frozen last Monday Ubasses thanks. So 6 days frozen. Is that better or not?

Some food needs additives to allow it to be frozen so maybe that’s why this particular product can’t be frozen

That should be fine, I have frozen bacon up to a month. The mash should also be okay, assuming the 'buttery' means it has enough fat in it.

mm I'm surprised you say potato as you can buy packs of buttery mashed potato in Waitrose and M&S so that should be OK I think. Have you had a bad experience with it yourself?

I literally freeze everything, I never look at or even see a 'not suitable for freezing' sign. Never have any problems at all, but I realise that's probably not what you want to hear. We're all different.

Danny I didn't refreeze it. It wasn't frozen when it arrived.

ILM there isn't anything I didn't want to hear, honestly.
If I have to chuck it in the bin then that's what I'll do no bother. I'll cook some egg and chips instead. Didn't want to make myself ill that's all. Like you, I've often frozen stuff without checking first and I've never had a problem either. Trouble here was I noticed I shouldn't have done it. Lesson learned is never bother reading the instructions on the packet;-))

I have to be honest lb, I do sometimes think when I'm freezing something if it's ok to do so, but I freeze it anyway! I haven't frozen liver cos I don't like it, but I've frozen bacon and mash before and had a lovely meal when defrosted and cooked! I'll probably carry on doing this. I also heat ready meals in the microwave when it says 'oven cook only'. I like to live on the edge me!!

Like a lot of the above comments, when I was working M&S meals were grabbed quite often. If there was a deal I would just put the extras in the freezer, never had a problem. Even if making a recipe now, will always put any excess in, they often say unsuitable.

Now that's interesting Margie. I've never done that but I have wondered if it would work. The exception for me, would have to be where you need something to be brown and crispy therefore does need the oven. Thanks for the tip.
