Red Wine Ideas

I haven't tasted red wine for years but I thought I would give it a try again this year. I'm looking for something that's tasty but not a wine that some would call "full bodied", if that's the term to use. I'm really not bothered about it tasting like blackberries etc as this would go over the top of my head. I'd like something French if possible and under about £10. In a nutshell, I suppose I'm looking for a "mild" red wine although I realise it's not the best way to describe it!
Any suggestions please? Thank you.

Well, returning to the OP,he does seem to drink pints!

I found a nice red wine that's mellow, with a slight tart, after taste. It's McGuigan's Red, Black Merlot.

Well, we've just had Rosé de Bessan and Granges de l'Orb Blanc with our evening meal (chicken curry) which was nice, but doesn't help the OP!

I used to drink Australian reds but found that they were getting heavier and heavier, so about 10 years ago reverted back to European wines (Portugese - try their Perequita,Spain and France) and wouldn't go anywhere else now (except for The Wine -Barolo). Found some fabulous new, to me, wines.

I'd go the Malbec route that's been suggested or a good Rioja. If you are thinking a Beaujolais region one, it's worth seeking out a Moulin-a-Vent or Saint-Amour - they are more expensive than a Fleurie but have more finesse to them. There's a Louis Jadot de Jacques Clos Rochegres at about £20-25 which is a fine quaffable wine if you can track it down.

Try Cotes du Rhone - plenty in normal supermarkets at under £10.
