Baffled. Is It A Man Thing?

OK, tonight I made kedgeree. Same recipe as forever (and he said it was good) but as we have become older we eat less, so instead of 2 hard-boiled eggs cut into halves, I boiled one tonight and cut it into quarters. For some months now I have noticed that he only eats half of a boiled egg, as do I. So I was chucking away a whole egg, very wasteful. At the end of the meal I noticed that there was a quarter left over (I only ate a quarter, which is all I needed) so he still had 1/2 a hard-boiled egg and there was more if he wanted it. I know the maths is weird - but can someone tell me what is the difference? - but he complained. I still had a quarter of an egg to throw away. If he wanted more it was there. He said it wasn't the same as a half of a hard-boiled egg and that I was cooking for myself. Completely baffled. Does it taste different or is he being lockdown awkward?

" Same recipe as forever" .. this may well be the problem ?

Don't think so. At 87 he is resistant to too much new stuff although I do introduce it bit by bit. E.G. Stir-fries have entered his life last year.
So he’s eaten exactly the same amount as he always does? You just ate less x
He would like it at my house .. I do plenty stir fries. A lot more in the summer as we have plenty fresh veg.
I'd buy a fridge so I could keep the demi-oeuf for a day or two.

That would teach him.

That's my point, Smow...... why is it so wrong to provide the same amount in a different format and save wastage?
Remember the old adage 'we eat with our eyes' - it looked different.

You are probably right Mamyalynne, but it feels quite strange.
So did he want the extra quarter but was leaving it for you??
Jourdy, use a quail egg next time ;-)
Question Author
No, Smow, he was happy to throw it away. I told you all I was baffled.

Love it Mozz! :)
I wouldn't be baffled over a quarter of an egg.
First world problems eh?
I don't think Jourdy is baffled by the egg, just by Mr J's stubborn logic.
Question Author
jennyj. It was that he seemed to think that an egg cut into quarters was different to a halved egg, for some reason.
I understand your question.
I think you should save the quarter of the egg and perhaps share it for lunch tomorrow ?
Why not cut then in half and have half each, instead of two quarters ? It's not 100% clear to me what the objection is. One might have thought slinging away good food was the bigger issue.
Ah I see you clarified further down the thread. So no issue then. Stop cutting the egg up into child size bits.
