I put some leeks and potatoes in a non stick pan with some butter...this is for smoked haddock chowder.
I had it on low, covered...and forgot it...kind of. Looked at it 35 minutes later and it is now a very deep, dark reddy brown. Looks awful. But, it doesn't taste burnt. Weird.
I guess I should start over...when I go out for some more leeks. Brown chowder doesn't work...does it?

Actually you just reminded me about a question i have to ask about getting burn off stainless steel pans (if , for example, you have a husband who put pasta on to boil and didnt go back for an hour)
I heard that bicarbonate of soda heated with water in the pan helps but never tried. Usually use hot water and dish wash soap, soak a couple of hours works well

At least you have someone to blame there.

I've just had another look, and a taste. There's definitely lots of little, and some big, burnt bits. It's going in the bin.
You'll just have to get bigger fish to fry. :-P
Talking of being forgetful, last night, I had my first go at making suet dumplings and forgot to put the suet in!
Put some coke in it and simmer it then let it cool down - it removes most burnt on residue
I just put good bleach onto the burnt pan - leave for a day or two and it just washes off

It's a very good ceramic non-stick. Everything just slides off.
Sorry, I'd never put bleach on any pans.
I agree, bleach and pans a recipe for disaster
Question Author
..yes, chlorine-based bleach should never be used on metals....stainless steel, aluminium, cast iron...any metal.
A couple of times I've ended up with a plate that looks more Michelin tyre than star, but as it's just for me, it gets eaten :-)
I did similar last week, however I was making a corned beef hash so the brown bits luckily blended in.

There's posh Maj, only retreads here.

I tossed it out...almost/not quite burnt doesn't work with fish chowder. I made a fresh batch, and it was very nice...several portions in the fridge.
Question Author
Not the fridge...freezer!
I’m in a Slow Cooker FB recipe group and one member had us all in hysterics today as her soup she’d had on all day tasted great but had come out a revoltingly unappealing brown colour, so she has named it POOP SOUP!! Lol.
