What's The Point Of Lettuce

This might be an "old chestnut". But ...

If you're making a salad, or a side salad ... would you put lettuce in it?

I made a salad yesterday ... cucumber, tomato, sweet corn, celery, carrot, green pepper. I was quite pleased with it.

As my pal shared the salad that I had expertly made, she maintained that a "salad" was generally lettuce based, with "other stuff" added.

I don't think I ever really buy lettuce.

My pal brought cannelloni. That was nice. Not sure if that's how you spell it.

I mean ... what's the point of lettuce???

I don't care either way regarding lettuce. My mrs swears by it to help her sleep. I've tried it a couple of times before beddy bys and it has relaxed me.

Adding coconut milk to kale makes it easier to scrape into the bin!

It's essential in any well prepared salad as highlighted by the exceptional salads prepared by Mrs sqad.

Food is not all about taste, as presentation is paramount.
It has to look good.

Little Gem lettuce doused in ice-cold water and then dried 10mins before the meal makes an ordinary presentation look sensational.

Lettuce is the basis of a good salad.

From the OP's list, I can't stand tomato, celery or cucumber, and I'm not keen on sweetcorn. Lettuce is essential for me, plus it has the additional value of bulking up a sandwich, to give it a little extra than plain cheese/meat.
