Service stations on Christmas Day
6 Answers
Does anyone know if this year, any service stations will be open on Christmas day, as I am travelling down to Bournemouth, and it is normally a 6hour journey, from Manchester, but what happens if I need some food, or the toilet? Does anybody know if the service stations will be open on Christmas day, on the M6, A34, M27 and other motorways on the way to Bournemouth? If anybody does, can they please tell me. Thanks...

I'd go prepared with a spare full petrol can in the boot, a flask of tea or coffee and some home-made sandwiches. And some kind of emergency container in which to do the necessary if you're caught short.
Can't speak for the roads on your journey, but last Christmas Day I travelled from Birmingham to Plymouth; all the service areas on the M5 were open for fuel only - no catering anywhere. I did manage to get a sorry-looking sandwich & a packet of crisps in the forecourt shop at Michael Wood, but I was on the way to friends for dinner anyway, and it was really only the fuel I needed. Having said that, it was the best run down the M5 I've ever had, and it was snowing as we traversed the A38 on the edge of Dartmoor - we had the road to ourselves - as dusk fell: lovely!
