I was wondering how people manage to fast and only eat one to two meals a day. I want to start not eating or consuming any calories after 5 pm. What is the best action plan for that? Also, what time should I start eating the next day again?

Porridge. 7am.
Prepare a midnight feast to look forward to ?
It depends on how long you want to fast for. Most people can easily fast for 14-16 hours. Last meal at 7-8pm, eat next at 10am-noon. Why is 5pm the cut off? It can be any time frame that fits your life. Last meal at 10pm, break your fast at noon...1...2pm. Plenty of flexibility.
Breakfast at 7am, main meal at lunchtime and a snack at 4:30pm.

Personally I would struggle with that routine and would be looking for another snack during the evening. If you’re sure it’s what you want to do then maybe think of some calorie free snack to fall back on should you need them.
I eat three meals a day and have my last meal between 5 and 6pm. I don't eat anything after that.
I eat breakfast as soon as I get up and have lunch at 1pm.
I rarely eat after 5 pm as I retire quite early & get night time indigestion with late meals.

Light breakfast at 7 am, bit of lunch between 12 & 1, evening meal (tea as I prefer to call it!) between 4 & 5.
i have a breakfast of toast or bread with jam, then maybe a sandwich at lunch time then dinner at 5pm, and nothing after. I have no idea about eating any more, i wouldn't eat two meals in a day, if i had something heavyish for lunch then i wouldn't eat anything until the following day.
It's what you eat before 5pm that you should be monitoring. At the risk of sounding like a complete bore, weighed in at 18.5 stone in Oct '09, heart attack and a diagnosis of type 2 Diabetes. Celebrated Christmas then knuckled down in '10, changing my diet, eating 3 meals per day, exercising - especially walking. In effect, burning off more calories than i consumed. Result; lost just over 6.5 stone in just over 18 months and reversed the diabetes.
I'm no saint, though, i've put about 2 stone back on and fully intend to lose it by my next birthday - March.
A sandwich is a meal to me.
My dinner is quite often just a sandwich, barry. Never a chip butty though :-))
i am not saying how much i weigh, that would be embarrasing, but its well over what it should be. I am down to one main meal a day, and can't walk far because of the arthritis, so am wondering how did it ever get to this.

Too much sitting in front of the computer? LOL
I blame 'leisure clothing', emmie. It is too easy to grow and grow like Topsy without realising when your clothing grows with you.
Rigid waistbands and non-stretch shirts/tops tell you that your waistline is an inch bigger than it was.
perhaps, but i am generally off out of here before nine, after the GMEB thread. i can't exercise at all, i walk a bit but the pain stops me from going far.
Breakfast of porridge, grapes blueberries 8 am.
Main meal 1pm and then not much thereafter.
Only an apple after 5 pm.
I am disabled with arthritis and on crutches.
Only one dress size up from 60 years ago. You are right, Barry, leisure clothing does not help monitor weight! I live in it since I retired.
Just keep moving - I'm always gardening etc.
I generally have 2 coffees with a splash of cream at sbout 11:30am. Light lunch is around 2-3pm...sometimes later if I've been out to city centre shopping. Dinner at 8pm. I'm always to bed late so that suits me.
I can't bear the thought of solid food first thing.
Inspired by Ken (!) I just went for a 3 mile walk - my back was hurting after a mile & really hurting after 2 but I'll try to keep at it.

Just under 16 stone - would like to be 13. Seems doable, we'll see.
Good luck with that Dave...keep us posted.
