This year I grew & froze my own Hungarian Wax variety chillis from the previous year's seed, which came from a commercial packet and was an F1 hybrid. Normally this is quite a mild chilli but last night we used one in a sauce. It was so fierce that the food was barely edible. This is the first time I've experienced a change in the heat strength of my home saved chillis from seed and I wonder whether any home growers have ever experienced something like this. .

Seeds from hybrid peppers as well as other vegetables do not reproduce true to the donor plant. Using seeds from hybrid plants is not recommended for that reason. There really is no way of telling what the results will be since the genetic information is unstable and often reverts to one of the hybrid's "parents"...
