At my local market today they were selling fresh olives. These were green and looked like extra large peas.
I love olives but didn't buy any as I don't know what to do with them once i got them home. I usually buy olives in jars. Have I got to pickle these??

Tip them straight into the compost (or kitchen waste if you don't have a compost heap). Olives are only suitable for making olive oil. They are not fit for humans to eat otherwise. They taste nothing like they look and are wholly vile.
Too much fluffing around in my opinion. I buy fresh, ready to eat olives in the supermarket.

Wow after reading this, I'm glad I didn't buy any!
I love green olives, nj, especially when stuffed with cloves of garlic.
Rather an 'acquired taste' but once acquired....mmmmm!
Have you tried the fresh ones from the deli counter, Sharon? Much nicer than those in jars.
Very good for you, too (if a little salt-rich).
Mmm, olives stuffed with a slice of garlic and then wrapped in an anchovy...
Absolutely love them here. We have them on salads, on pizzas, in pasta dishes as well as on their own; green, black, plain, flavoured, stuffed, - bring them on.

Me too captain, me too.
I had to stop buying them as once I’d opened the jar I couldn’t stop till they were all gone.
I like the fresh ones I get off the greek stall on the market.

Now I have to go to the market to get some as I find myself thinking about fresh olives and feta cheese and baklava and other yummy stuff.
When our daughter was a youngster we would go to the local Deli every Saturday morning and she would have a tub of olives to herself which were demolished before we got home - she certainly loved up to her name, Olivia. :))
Send Liv my regards Captain I often wonder how she's getting on. (Sorry for interruption Sharon)
I should have said that I've tried olives at regular intervals and still can't get a taste for them, even the fresh ones in Spain.
That's because they taste dreadful, Margo. No matter how long you try, they will always taste dreadful.
Haaa! No NJ. You can change. I used to hate them. I love them now.
