I made a wicked soup last week from homemade chicken stock and I'll be making another one on Friday.  I don't tend to stick to recipes.  I'll bung in whatever veg I have at my disposal at the time and add spices, herbs, pastes, etc and keep adjusting it until I am happy with it.

 

Do you tend to follow specific recipes or wing it like I do?

Hey, Bobbi.  I heartily agree with that, although I did see a nice recipe the other day for smoky bacon, chestnut and parsnip soup.  I'd like to make it for Christmas Day but my FIL would probably turn his nose up at it.

Absolutely, Hazlinny.  I always like to add some spice to mine!  A tbsp of curry paste and some selected spices and herbs to pep it up a bit.

I've always had you down as a bit of a scientist, Chris ;)

20.10/  Mentioning Christmas, I once was very lazy and made soup from a tin of pea and ham mixed with one of tomato, swirl of cream on top - tasty!

I often wing it. My soups have been known to have different vegetables in each time & just as tasty.

I've made pea and ham and added a tin of mushy peas at the end - and it was delicious.  

 

My wild mushroom soup is a favourite too.  

My fave is broccoli and Stilton , yummmy , done in my soup maker at 22mins  😂

I don't pretend to be a connoisseur 😂😂😂

Definitely, Sharon.  As long as you've got the staples such as onions and garlic and plenty of herbs and spices for the essential flavour there are no limits to whatever combinations you can make.

Yes, broccoli and stilton is a lovely soup.  Nice served with cheesy soldiers to dip.  

Chicken, red lentil, sweetpotato and coconut with Thai flavours is another favourite here.  I just add red thai curry paste, lime leaves and lemongrass for the flavours.

Carrot and ginger for those dark cold nights , mmmm

Fresh ginger is a must in my soups and curries.  It's so good for you.

That one I made last week I couldn't get enough of.  I'd used a jar of sundried tomates, onions, peppers, garlic sweet potatoes and a bag of frozen cauliflower.  Flavours included Paprika, cumin, coriander, madras powder, marjoram, a tbsp each of onion chutney, madras paste and tomato and red pepper paste.  And don't forget the Knorr stockpots!

OH loved it.

Neither do I particularly but you can't take it when it's all blended.  It's a good cheap "filler".

When it chilly and the nights are cutting in then it's good old mince and dumplings here , a definite winner
