No Stars For Starbucks

Out shopping yesterday we nipped into Starbucks for a quick sandwich and cup of tea.  We were presented with bread rolls containing luke-warm lightly cooked bacon, yukky inedible soft fat and all,  flimsy little wooden knives to cut them with, grotesquely thick china mini-buckets of warm water (quantity over quality?) containing tea bags. the result of which turned the water a very unappetising shade of grey, and a little paper cup of milk.  We didn’t expect fine dining but that was a truly ghastly experience.  Never before and never again.

 

Does anyone actually like Starbucks?

Mind you if you think that some of the big boys serve up some rubbish coffee, give Greggs a try, it looks like they've just lifted it from the local river, after Seven Trent have just dumped their load in.

We occasionally have a latte and toasted teacake or bacon batch, in the Starbucks inside our big Sainsbury's, the coffee and the food is always really nice, and the cafe itself spotless. The ladies behind the counter are so friendly and helpful too.

We've just come back from the new Co op near us which has a cafe upstairs where we had a latte and a bacon butty. Both were very nice, and again, the ladies cheerful and friendly.

Perhaps it depends which branch of any coffee shop you go to, these places are only as good as the manager..

Only as good as the managers. That can be true, because I knew someone who worked in a coffee house and they were asked to put 2 coffees through the same batch of coffee ? filter when it should only be for one cup, hence you may get the second cup, hence again warm water/ very weak. Not a bad scam at £3 a time.

I've found that these coffee shops are always good to start with, then after establishing customers drop their quality. Way too expensive as well.

Jack - whats the problem with the picture?

I don't often drink coffee, but when I do it has to be very strong with half a teaspoon of demerara sugar and a splash of milk, or black.  Nothing worse than the weak milky coffee or coffee made with hot milk that my Mum made (except for her cat pee tea with half the cup fil.ed with milk before pouring!

redhelen - I don't think that a company like Costa Coffee should be celebrating the mutilation of (primarily young) women by displaying an image such as this on their takeaway coffee cups.

anneasquith - Whilst I added my voice to the on-line protest, ultimately, I decided to vote with my feet and my pocket.

We are fortunate, in Blackpool, that there are a great many independent places where it is possible to buy an excellent coffee.

re the cups, is Starbucks more geared to the younger woke person, might their logo be all encompassing, covers every one . ?

I can't see why that picture applies to a cafe.  I got the fact that it represents all sexes, but what it's goto do with a cafe I don't get.  Surely all cafes are open to all anyway!  It's a horrible picture regardless.

I wonder how any woman who has had a necessary,  life saving mastectomy feels seeing that.
