Before Being Given A Rice Cooker I'd Use Boil In The Bag Stuff.
Having used it a few times I got to wondering if it's another unnecessary kitchen gadget. If I put one measure of rice in a pot with two measures of water, brought it to the boil, turned the heat off and let it sit for 10 minutes , would the rice be cooked?

I always use basmati rice & have always cooked it in a pan with a lid on the hob. I tend to use double the amount of boiled hot water to rice. So 1 cup of rice=2 cups of hot water. If you like the rice with a softer texture, you can add an extra half a cup of hot water. I Wash the rice at least 3 times in warm water. I add 1/2 a teaspoon of salt & a knob of butter or ghee. Bring to the boil, stir well but gently, cover with a lid, put the heating as low as you can go & let it cook for 15mins. Turn gas off & leave to stand about 10mins
