can i use long grain rice in a slow cooker for rice pudding?

I reckon you should use short grain rice, which will release starch and give a creamy texture, whereas long grain would I presume produce something different, with separate grains. I haven't tried it, but I might if it was all I had. It's all rice, so the nourishment should be the same.
If you use long grain, it would be useful to hear what happens.
