can i use long grain rice in a slow cooker for rice pudding?

I wouldn't. I reckon you should use short grain rice, which will release starch and give a creamy texture, whereas long grain would I presume produce something different, with separate grains. I haven't tried it, but I might if it was all I had. It's all rice, so the nourishment should be the same.

If you use long grain, it would be useful to hear what happens.

Similarly, I wouldn't use "pudding rice" with my curry!

Long Grain White Rice– you will need to cook the rice according to package directions before adding it to the slow cooker.

Why bother with a slow cooker if the rice is pre-cooked in a saucepan?

I don't have a micro or a slow cooker, so I'm not familiar with them. Would long grain really be done in 2 mins in a micro? I can put up with 10 mins in a saucepan, and our kitchen is too small for 21st century gadgets.

There are plenty of recipes online using long grain rice, I'd give it a go.

I used long grain once - being male I thought rice was rice. It doesn't disintegrate like pudding rice does so I ended up with rice in milk. Pudding rice forms a mush with the milk - much better.

During lock down I made it with uncooked long grain rice and it was fine. I can't remember the proportions but from memory I think I cooked it longer and with more milk.
