Hi,

Recently had a trip to Germany where i experienced sauerkraut for the first time, loved it!

Anyone know any supermarkets where i can buy some in england?

Ive seen a few websites but as i only want a few tins/jars at most it seems stupid to pay so much P&P

You can buy it jars in most supermarkets.Never seen it in tin.
Most of the big supermarkets stock it and you will definitely get it in Lidl or Aldi.
you can also make it by pickling cabbage. cabbage, vinegar, white wine, salt, pepper and sugar, boil it all up til cabbage is like a pulp and hey presto!! its yummy

Find it at the pickles and sauces, not jams. Most shops sell it. Very high in Vit C, and more 'nice' bacteria than yoghurt too! and its what the Navy used to stop scurvy before citrus fruits were introduced.

Loads about it here if you want to know more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauerkraut

Even though I live in Germany, I usually make my own!

But I have seen it in England!
If you can't find it, let me know, and I'll send you a few tins in exchange for hobnobs and penguins...

:o)

Also read recently that the reason Polish women have lower incidence of breast cancer is because they eat so much sauerkraut! apparently fermented food is good for you! But perhaps it's just because they haven't had the chance to eat the west's crappy diet!
