Caviar and wine

Why do people make so much fuss over caviar? its salty an disgusting, would rather have a burger king whopper. also wine, its sour and gives you bad guts so why the snobbery? Red wine is particulaly sour so why all the fuss???

As for wine, I'm with the others here, red wine is lovely but on a sunny day like today I am dreaming of getting in from work and sitting in the garden with a large glass of cold dry white.
Oh, and I don't like Burger Kings and in pubs I drink Kronenbourg so does that make me a snob because it's not Fosters?

Wine's an acquired taste - if you keep drinking it it starts to taste really good.
I think caviar is rank too, but then I've never tried the proper �100 a spoonful stuff, which is the real deal. That's probably nice otherwise people wouldn't pay for it!

You don'tsay how old you are but me and my friends have graduated from hating wine (in our teens) to drinking any old stuff to get drunk (in our twenties) to actually enjoying it and even learning the name of the odd grape variety! (roaring thirties).. And I've heard that your taste buds change as you grow older which is why scotch and brandy is rarely marketed directly to young drinker s(becasue we prefer sweeter tastes when we are younger) Give it another ten years and you might be joining us on the verandah with a nice glass of pinot grigio (white)or merlot(a red)
It's a n aquired taste. Red wine of any description and caviar is going to be rank when you try it the first few times. Then you get accustomed to them, appreciate their subtlety, and really pine for them. I hated wine and caviar, now I adore them.
Beer, on the other hand, is mostly gross no matter how much you drink it.

Each to their own I say. If someone wants to eat raw fish eggs... go for it.
What I don't like is people who force the mush down their throat so they can pretend to be "upper class"
Give me a Double Bacon Cheeseburger anyday, it costs a fraction of what you pay for caviar, and doesn't taste like clotted semen.
Red wince can be quite nice, but nothing beats a nice cold Bottle of Grolsch. (you know.. the one with the pop off lid ^_^)

Lump eggs are affordable and yummy.
Caviar, on the other hand, is just expensive and expensive. That is their whole point. It's eggs of an endangered species. It's just plain stupid.
I mostly agree with you about red wine, though I found I quite enjoy some red Chilean wines.
Have you tried oysters? Once you made the effort to eat some once or twice, you find later that you quite fancy them occasionally. Don't know why... it must be the need for zinc...

The difference between Lumpfish "Caviar" and genuine Sturgeon Caviar is enormous! Equal to the difference between a �2.99 bottle of red wine and a �30+ bottle. That's not to say Lumpfish caviar is not alright, it's a good thing to try if you don't want to spend lots of money on the really good stuff! Just get some cheap lumpfish caviar from sainsburys or waitrose (not lidl) and spread thinly on toasted and buttered brown bread, cut into soldiers...and enjoy!
