Haloumi cheese

Just discovered this little gem. I find it a bit salty to eat on its own but have used it in a mixed kabab and it tastes particularly nice when it's next to a chunk of pineapple on the skewer.

Any other suggestion on what i can do with it ?

A very easy alternative is toslive the haloumi, put sesame seeds around, and then quickly fry. Serve hot with salad and dressing. Simone
This is nice
In a pan fry about a dozen shallots,a red and green pepper and a leek all roughly chopped. Add a small pack of cherry toms and a pack of cubed haloumi . Transfer to a casserole dish. Boil and skin a couple of sweet potatoes and about a pound of new potatoes ...cut into chunks ..chuck in.
Add a handful of olives ..black and green..small jar pesto and a couple of teaspoonfuls of minced chillis.Pour a half a pint of vegetable stock over it and cook in the oven 200c for about forty minutes..
Sorry it's a bit vague .re measurements..I had it written down somewhere ....make it up as you go along!

Haloumi is also great with ready made polenta; both grilled with lemon infused olive oil.
Ha Ha ..I am a dreadful ..make it up as you along ..cook ..I think this was a recipe from the BBC website ..but have cooked it many times for my son who is a Veggie.I am slowly but surely being converted !!
Roasted Peppers with Halloumi and Feta Cheese

2 large red peppers seeded and roughly quartered
6 ripe plum tomatoes halved
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
handful fresh basil leaves
200g (7oz) halloumi cheese thickly sliced
200g (7oz) feta cheese, roughly chopped

Preheat oven to 200 degrees c (180 if using a fan oven), 400F, Gas mark 6.
Spread the peppers & tomatoes out in a large roasting tin and drizzle with the olive oil. Season and sprinkle over half the basil leaves. Roast for 15 mins until veg starts to char.
Remove the tin from the oven and arrange the cheeses over peppers and tomatoes. Roast for 20 mins until cheese turns golden. Sprinkle with the rest of the basil and serve with a green salad and crusty bread if you like.
Are you vegetarian? I ask because it goes beautifully on lamb kebabs, and adding chunks of watermelon makes it even more interesting!
Oh and I forgot to say, halumi is GORGEOUS fried - but do it in a dry pan with no oil. It goes all crispy and scrummy! Delicious with felafel or couscous.

Nope....not a veggie Plocket. I feel that Haloumi needs that touch of sweetness to compliment the saltiness (well it's quite salty to me) maybe it could be baked with slices of fresh nectarine or something ?
Slice the halloumi, coat in flour with a bit of pepper mixed in and fry in a small amount of oil until brown on both sides. Serve with a vinaigrette (oil, nice vinegar, chopped parsley and some capers) with pitta bread. Great and simple starter. [think this is a delia recipe]
BBQ it on it's own - delicious

Or if you don't want it on it's own, still BBQ it, then place a thick slice of beef tomoto on top (of the cooked side once you've turned it) and BBQ the uncooked side. LUSH!

I love halloumi cheese! I had it in a restaurant, grilled with salad and nectarine slices, its gorgeous. I try to recreate it as often as I can!
