Does anyone know the name for the 1 litre beer glasses served at the Bavarian Beer Gardens. I'm pretty sure it begins with an 'H'. Many thanks.

The only ones I know are Gusto mugs and masskrug glasses.

Both hold one litre.
In Bavaria, a one litre beer glass is a 'Mass'. You're 'H' will be the half litre glass, called a 'Halbe'.
I think "Humpen" is the word you're looking for.

'Helles'... I did a further search on the words you gave me and found the answer. Many thanks.
"Helles" just refers to the colour of the beer, namely "light". If you're in a Bavarian beer garden and order a Helles, chances are you'll get a litre. But try that anywhere else in Germany and you may end up with a much smaller drink. A "Mass" (long vowel) is the normal word for a litre of beer.
Prost!
